You may probably tell from the title of this post what subject I will cover in this post! You’re right-it’s ‘Time’<\/strong>! We will learn how to tell the time in German in this post.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In German, ‘Zeit’<\/strong><\/em><\/a> is the word for time. German has a particular way of telling the time. Let us first look at the German names for second, minute, and hour. A second is referred to as ‘Sekunde’<\/a>,<\/em><\/strong> a minute as ‘Minute<\/a>‘<\/strong><\/em>, and an hour as either ‘<\/strong><\/em><\/a>Stu<\/strong><\/em>nde<\/strong><\/em><\/a>‘<\/strong><\/em><\/a> or ‘Uhr’<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, though ‘Stunde’ <\/strong><\/em>and ‘Uhr’ <\/strong><\/em>have different usages depends on the context of the sentence. In German, a clock is also referred to as ‘Uhr’<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, one minute is ‘Eine Minute’<\/strong><\/em>. While the word ‘Minuten’<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is pronounced for two or more numerals, the solitary word ‘Minute’<\/strong><\/em> is pronounced exclusively for the number 1, comparable to ‘Drei Minuten’<\/strong><\/em> (3 minutes) or ‘Sieben Minuten’<\/strong><\/em> (7 minutes). Similarly ‘Stunde’ <\/strong><\/em>and ‘Stunden’<\/strong><\/em> differ from one another!\u00a0 ‘Eine Stunde’<\/strong><\/em> stands for one hour, whereas ‘Drei Stunden,’ ‘Vier Stunden,’ <\/strong><\/em>and ‘F\u00fcnf Stunden’<\/strong><\/em> stand for two or more numbers, such as three hours, four hours, or five hours, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n
