German has a particular way of telling the time. Let us first look at the German names for second, minute, and hour. A second is referred to as <strong><em>&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/sekunde\">Sekunde&#8217;<\/a>,<\/em><\/strong> a minute as <em><strong>&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/minute\">Minute<\/a>&#8216;<\/strong><\/em>, and an hour as either <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/stunde\"><em><strong>&#8216;<\/strong><\/em><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/stunde\"><em><strong>Stu<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>nde<\/strong><\/em><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/stunde\"><em><strong>&#8216;<\/strong><\/em><\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/uhr\"><em><strong>&#8216;Uhr&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, though <em><strong>&#8216;Stunde&#8217; <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> &#8216;Uhr&#8217; <\/strong><\/em>have different usages depends on the context of the sentence. While the word <em><strong>&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/minuten\">Minuten&#8217;<\/a><\/strong><\/em> is pronounced for two or more numerals, the solitary word <em><strong>&#8216;Minute&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> is pronounced exclusively for the number 1, comparable to <em><strong>&#8216;Drei Minuten&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> (3 minutes) or <em><strong>&#8216;Sieben Minuten&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> (7 minutes). Similarly <em><strong>&#8216;Stunde&#8217; <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> &#8216;Stunden&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> differ from one another!\u00a0 <em><strong>&#8216;Eine Stunde&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> stands for one hour, whereas <em><strong>&#8216;Drei Stunden,&#8217; &#8216;Vier Stunden,&#8217; <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> &#8216;F\u00fcnf Stunden&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> stand for two or more numbers, such as three hours, four hours, or five hours, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva;\">The variation between the words <em><strong>&#8216;Stunde&#8217; <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> &#8216;Uhr&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> (Hour) is that <em><strong>&#8216;Stunde&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> is used to indicate how many hours have passed, such as <em>&#8220;2 hours have passed&#8221;<\/em> or <em>&#8220;5 hours have passed.&#8221;<\/em> As previously indicated, <em><strong>&#8216;Zwai Stunden&#8217; <\/strong>or<strong> &#8216;F\u00fcnf Stunden&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> is pronounced in this term.
