The concept of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/uhr\"><strong>&#8216;Uhr&#8217;<\/strong><\/a><\/em> is a time-telling word from German.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 17px; font-family: verdana, geneva;\">German uses numbers from 1 to 24 to denote time, and it counts from midnight to midnight (i.e., 24). While 5 am is referred to as <em><strong>&#8216;F\u00fcnf Uhr,&#8217;<\/strong>.<\/em> 1 a.m. in the midnight is referred to as <strong><em>&#8216;Ein Uhr&#8217;.\u00a0&#8216;Zehn Uhr&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> is 10 a.m., while <em><strong>&#8216;Zw\u00f6lf Uhr&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> is 12 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px; font-family: verdana, geneva;\">The time expressions do change starting at 1 in the afternoon, though. In the same way as 1 p.m. (13 o&#8217;clock) is <em>&#8216;<strong>Dreizehn Uhr&#8217;<\/strong> <\/em>and 6 p.m. (also 18 o&#8217;clock) is <em><strong>&#8216;Akhtatzehn Uhr&#8217;<\/strong>.<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/zwei-und-zwanzig\"><strong><em>&#8216;Zwei<\/em> und- Zwanzig Uhr&#8217;<\/strong><\/a> refers to 10 p.m. (at 22 o&#8217;clock) and <em><strong>&#8216;Vier und- Zwanzig Uhr&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> to 12 a.m. (at 24 o&#8217;clock) in the midnight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px; font-family: verdana, geneva;\">In German, <strong><em>&#8216;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/halb\"><em>Halb&#8217;<\/em><\/a><\/strong> is the word for <strong>&#8216;Half an hour.&#8217;<\/strong> Half of four, or three and a half, is pronounced as <em><strong>&#8216;halb Vier&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> in German. Similar expressions include <em><strong>&#8216;halb F\u00fcnf&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> for 4.30 and <em><strong>&#8216;halb Akht&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> for 7.30 ! However, half past one (1.30 p.m.) is referred to as <strong>&#8216;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/dreizehn\">Dreizehn<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/uhr\">Uhr<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/drei%C3%9Fig\">drei\u00dfig<\/a>&#8216;<\/em><\/strong> (13. 30) and half past eleven( 11.30 p.m.) is referred to as <strong>&#8216;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/dreiundzwanzig\">Dreiundzwanzig<\/a> Uhr drei\u00dfig&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>(23. 30).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px; font-family: verdana, geneva;\">The word <strong>&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/viertel\">Viertel&#8217;<\/a><\/strong> is used to describe the idea of a <em><strong>&#8216;Quarter&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>. Quarter before seven is referred to as <em><strong>&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/viertel-vor\">Viertel vor<\/a> Zieben&#8217;<\/strong>,<\/em> and quarter after nine is referred to as <em><strong>&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/viertel-nach\">Viertel nach<\/a> Neun&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>.
