In German, family is referred to as <strong><em>&#8216;Familie&#8217;<\/em> <\/strong>or <strong><em>&#8216;die Familie&#8217;.<\/em><\/strong> Like Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, Aunt, Grandfather, and Grandmother in English, family members are also addressed differently in German.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 18px;\"><strong><em>&#8216;Mutter&#8217; <\/em><\/strong>and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/vater\"><strong><em> &#8216;Vater&#8217; <\/em><\/strong><\/a>are the German words for mother and father, respectively. Son is called <strong><em>&#8216;Sohn&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> and daughter is called <strong><em>&#8216;Tochter&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>, whereas sister and brother are referred to as <strong><em>&#8216;Schwester&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>&#8216;Bruder&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/junge\"><strong><em>&#8216;Junge&#8217;<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is the name of the boy, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/m%C3%A4dchen\"><strong><em>&#8216;M\u00e4dchen&#8217;<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is the name of the girl. Grandmother is referred to as <strong><em>&#8216;Gro\u00dfmutter&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> or <strong><em>&#8216;Oma&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>, whereas grandfather is referred to as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/gro%C3%9Fvater\"><strong><em>&#8216;Gro\u00dfvater&#8217;<\/em> <\/strong><\/a>or <strong><em>&#8216;Opa&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>. In German, parents are referred to as <em><strong>&#8216;Eltern&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>, and grandparents\u00a0as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/gro%C3%9Feltern\"><em><strong>&#8216;Gro\u00dfeltern&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/a>! A child is referred to as <em><strong>&#8216;Kind&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> and children are <em><strong>&#8216;die Kinder&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>, while a baby is simply referred to as <em><strong>&#8216;Baby&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 18px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/verwandte\"><em><strong>&#8216;Verwandte&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> <\/a>is the German word for relatives. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 18px;\">Uncle is referred to as <em><strong>&#8216;Onkel&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>, while aunt is called <em><strong>&#8216;Tante&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>. The in-laws are referred to as <em><strong>&#8216;Schwiegermutter&#8217;<\/strong> <\/em>that is mother-in-law and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/schwiegervater\"><em><strong>&#8216;Schweigervater&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> <\/a>which is father-in-law. In German, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/schw%C3%A4gerin\"><em><strong>&#8216;Schw\u00e4gerin&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/a> refers to a sister-in-law and <em><strong>&#8216;Schwagar&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> to a brother-in-law. Nephew is called <em><strong>&#8216;Neffe&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>, whereas niece is called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/nichte\"><em><strong>&#8216;Nichte&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. Here, we must remember how we treat our friends just as we do our family. A male buddy is referred to as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtopronounce.com\/german\/freund\"><em><strong>&#8216;Freund&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, and a female friend as <em><strong>&#8216;Freundine&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 18px;\">All feminine nouns, such as Mutter, Gro\u00dfmutter, and Schwester, are pronounced with <em><strong>&#8216;die&#8217;<\/strong> <\/em>preceding them like <em><strong>&#8216;die Mutter&#8217;,<\/strong><\/em> while\u00a0 masculine words are pronounced with <em><strong>&#8216;der&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> like <em><strong>&#8216;der Vater&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>&#8216;der Gro\u00dfvater&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>. But M\u00e4dchen, Baby and Kind are pronounced as &#8216;<strong><em>das<\/em><\/strong> <em><strong>M\u00e4dchen&#8217;,<\/strong><strong> &#8216;das Baby&#8217; <\/strong><\/em>and <em><strong>&#8216;das Kind&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 18px;\">After learning this would you tell me about your family members in German?
