Learn German! How to tell the Time in German? ( Part-1)

You may probably tell from the title of this post what subject I will cover in this post! You’re right-it’s ‘Time’! We will learn how to tell the time in German in this post. 
In German, ‘Zeit’ is the word for time. German has a particular way of telling the time. Let us first look at the German names for second, minute, and hour. A second is referred to as ‘Sekunde’, a minute as ‘Minute‘, and an hour as either ‘Stunde‘ or ‘Uhr’, though ‘Stunde’ and ‘Uhr’ have different usages depends on the context of the sentence. In German, a clock is also referred to as ‘Uhr’.

We learned about numbers in a previous post. In light of that, let’s explore the concept of ‘Time’ in the German language in this topic.

So, one minute is ‘Eine Minute’. While the word ‘Minuten’ is pronounced for two or more numerals, the solitary word ‘Minute’ is pronounced exclusively for the number 1, comparable to ‘Drei Minuten’ (3 minutes) or ‘Sieben Minuten’ (7 minutes). Similarly ‘Stunde’ and ‘Stunden’ differ from one another!  ‘Eine Stunde’ stands for one hour, whereas ‘Drei Stunden,’ ‘Vier Stunden,’ and ‘Fünf Stunden’ stand for two or more numbers, such as three hours, four hours, or five hours, respectively.

The variation between the words ‘Stunde’ and ‘Uhr’ (Hour) is that ‘Stunde’ is used to indicate how many hours have passed, such as “2 hours have passed” or “5 hours have passed.” As previously indicated, ‘Zwai Stunden’ or ‘Fünf Stunden’ is pronounced in this term.
