One is referred to as ‘Eins‘, two as ‘Zwei‘ and three as ‘Drei’. Four is pronounced ‘Vier’ (which sounds like ‘Fear’), followed by ‘Fรผnf‘, ‘Sechs‘,‘Sieben‘, ‘Acht‘, ‘Neun‘, and ‘Zehn‘, for five, six, seven, eight, nine and ten respectively.
The numbers 11 through 20 are pronounced as follows in German.ย Eleven (11) is ‘Elf‘, twelve (12) is ‘Zwรถlf‘, and thirteen (13) is ‘Dreizehn‘. Fourteen (14) is pronounced ‘Vierzehn‘,ย fifteen (15) is ‘Fรผnfzehn‘, and sixteen (16) is ‘Sechzehn‘. Seventeen (17) is known as ‘Seibzehn‘ while eighteen (18)ย is ‘Akhtzehn‘. ‘Neuntzehn‘ equals 19 and ‘Zwanzig‘ equals 20.
The next numbers 30, 40 and 50 are pronounced as ‘Dreiรig‘, ‘Vierzig‘ and ‘Fรผnfzig‘ respectively, whereas 60, 70 and 80 are called as ‘Sechzig‘,‘Siebzig‘, and ‘Achtzig‘ singly. ‘Neunzig‘ is 90 and 100 is ‘Hundert‘.
The names for twenty-one (21) and twenty-two (22) are ‘Ein und –Zwanzig‘ and ‘Zwei und –Zwanzig‘ respectively. Thus, by adding 1ย to 10 to the ‘Zwanzig‘ย , the numbers 21 to 30 can be formed.
The same numerals 1 through 10 can also be joined with ‘Dreiรig‘, ‘Vierzig‘, and ‘Fรผnfzig‘, and still further, to produce 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, and further.
