Learn German! What are numbers called in German?

In this post, let us explore what are english numbers are called in German.ย  A number is referred to as Zahlen. German numbers have a variety of names, just like the English digits one, two, and three.
One is referred to as Eins, two asZwei and three as ‘Drei’. Four is pronounced ‘Vier’ (which sounds like ‘Fear’), followed byFรผnf, Sechs‘,Sieben, Acht, Neun, and Zehn, for five, six, seven, eight, nine and ten respectively.

The numbers 11 through 20 are pronounced as follows in German.ย  Eleven (11) is Elf‘, twelve (12) isZwรถlf, and thirteen (13) isDreizehn. Fourteen (14) is pronounced Vierzehn,ย  fifteen (15) is Fรผnfzehn, and sixteen (16) isSechzehn. Seventeen (17) is known asSeibzehn while eighteen (18)ย  is Akhtzehn. Neuntzehn equals 19 and Zwanzig equals 20.

The next numbers 30, 40 and 50 are pronounced as DreiรŸig, ‘Vierzig andFรผnfzig respectively, whereas 60, 70 and 80 are called as Sechzig,Siebzig, and Achtzigsingly. Neunzig is 90 and 100 is Hundert.

The names for twenty-one (21) and twenty-two (22) are Ein undZwanzig and Zwei undZwanzig respectively. Thus, by adding 1ย to 10 to the Zwanzigย , the numbers 21 to 30 can be formed.
The same numerals 1 through 10 can also be joined with DreiรŸig‘, Vierzig‘, andFรผnfzig, and still further, to produce 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, and further.
